the box only powers the distributor, you still have to set the timing, and if its too far advanced, this will cause overgeating, but it would also cause it to crank over slowly too, and you never mentioned that. so try setting the timing. if that doesnt do the trick, you have another problem with overheating, and that could be several things. good luck!
References :
retired cert. mech.

it's a four stroke.

one has to determine if it's on the compression stroke first or you can be 180 out.

gotta make sure all valves are closed on the #1 cyl, that the #1 piston is up top, and the rotor is pointing to the #1 plug on the cap.

pull #1 plug. put you finger in the hole. turn the crank till your finger pops out. you'll note the your just a few degrees btdc. move it to tdc. that's done. then the rotor has to point to the #1 plug wire on the cap. you might see at this time your rotor is pointing away from the #1 hole. this is where you could be 180 out. pull the distributor, don't turn the housing. turn the rotor to the #1 position and reinstall. should be good to go with your timing light. then follow the advice above.

and msc is right. the distributor doesn't care about any indexing position. as long as the cap can be turned and not be obstructed by the engine/parts when using i timing light.

tip. next time, before you put the rocker/cam cover on, turn the crank till both/all rocker arms on the #1 cyl are lose/free and your crank is at tdc. both/all valves are closed. then all you gotta do is whats stated above.
References :
If you look on the top of the distributor cap,one of the prongs will have a #1 printed on it,just point the rotor to that spot & put the #1 plug wire on that prong. The rotor should point to the #1 cylinder if you have the piston up ,(TDC.) The firing order is 1-6-5-4-3-2 (clockwise) & #1 cylinder is the front cylinder on the right side of the engine ,of your standing in front of the truck.
References :
30 years working on vehicle's.

It can be anywhere just as long as you have room to move the distributor back and forth to adjust the timing. Make sure your firing order is correct. Just start with number one and go from there
References :
Number 1 on the distributor is about 5:30 looking from the front of the engine. Click the link for a diagram.

Play.co. are pretty cheap, I used to shop at CD Univers- I bet they do digital stuff- I got £3000 of collection for around £1200 so I know they're competitive.
Your best solution is to get a huge memory stick and visit all of your mates- download everything and sample the music before you buy it- it'll take you years to sample it- and you might not want to buy it by then so I'd say its gotta be the cheapest option.
